No matter how small your pond installation, it is always to your minimum-maintenance advantage to install a pond bottom drain or bulkhead fitting as a drain to which an inlet screen can be added. If the installation does not permit this drain to be gravity fed away from the pond, it can always be connected to the suction side of a pump. Even if you do not plan to install a filter system right away this plumbing line can be capped for eventual hookup. If you do not have drain plumbing, you can use the Aqua Art Retro-Drain. per one linear foot, but a 2 inch drop/foot is preferred. This guide notes that a drain with the proper slope will draw water from a 4' to 6' radius. Multiple drains should therefore be used based on this area guide so all parts of the pond are drained adequately. |
